I got this bike from a friend whose roomate left it in absolutely horrible condition. The frame has been blasted and powdercoated to a good match for the original Saronni Red. The components are last generation of Campy Athena for that classic modern touch.

This is the stage where I am finally happy with the bike and it does not feel like I am compromising on anything. The Fulrcum 5 LG wheels are still Campagnolo and have nipples that match the bike. The Vittoria Corsa G+ tires are the perfect tan wall to complement the vintage frame. With the wheel tire combo, the 700x23 tires are actually 25.5mm wide at 110 psi. The Turbo saddle is comfortable, classic, but not overly heavy. The Soma Highway One bars are just right.

Like CUMBOT said, the handlebars are a little off - for such an retro build, you really should throw some classic bend bars on there! Nevertheless, you really saved this bike - beautiful!

Cool! While still not "classic" (think Cinelli Campione del Mondos or something) those are definitely better. Next up: silver wheelset and a period saddle! :'-))

Any recommendations on the silver wheelset? I am guessing a custom built one is kinda the only option.

Currently I am happy with the Fulcrum 5's I have on there. They are not classic, but they are Campagnolo and somewhat light and wide. Plus they make the Vittoria corsa 23's ride like 25's. I may look into a custom wheelset later on, but for now I am happy with the bike

Your frame is circa '83 to '84 (possibly '82 or '85). The "Saronni" models did not exist until after Saronni won the World Championship (road) on a Colnago "Super (Profil)" in Semptember 1982. "Criterium" and "Mondial" models found in Colnago's '84 catalog. I cannot verify '85 models; but no Saronni model is shown from '86 catalog and onward regarding the classic frames. It is said that not all Colnago "Saronni" models were actually made by Colnago and that some may have been contracted out for building by other companies; I don't know for sure. Tecnotrat made later 80's frames badged as Saronni, but nothing to do with Colnago that I know of. Very Nice bike.
