About to fix up the same model. Any advice? Learn anything valuable along the way?

26.8 seatpost, if you need to change that out at all. paint is enamel I think, it chips pretty easy. be careful with tools and locking up, and get some touch-up/clear nail polish. the stock cantis are not really height-adjustable, but if you're keeping the original wheels then it's not a problem. might need to use different brakes if you switch to 700c. the stem/bars take some work to polish up but it's worth it imo. the "more info" link has all the original specs. no other issues that I had to deal with. good luck!

it's a wonderful ride. it goes quickly and it's very stable. the tires do a great job of soaking up road, gravel, grass, whatever. nimble, but plush.
