hey man I love how you had this thing set up. One question I have - did you use track hubs on those wheels? Was it a flip-flop hub with a freewheel?

Posted over 10 years ago

BklynLOW

BklynLOW says:

Thanks a lot. Yea I use Pistard's, the hub allows you to use a freewheel on it. It's 120 spaced so you can use any track wheel set.

Awesome bike and great pics!

I was contemplating building a Mash CX but ended up with a road bike instead. This may be my next project though.

Thanks a lot. Its a great ride. A road bike over it wasn't a bad choice.

how does it feel to be ridding single speed off road been thinking of going and getting a cycle cross for a while now

Thank you,

It's actually a lot more fun than riding through the streets all the time. The different terrain really test out your bike handling skills. I suggest giving it a shot.

such a clean build. Minus those Miche wheels you could easily have this bike under 17.5 lbs

BklynLOW says:

Thanks! I agree with you with the wheels. But couldn't pass on the deal for them. I'll eventually build a wider box sectional rim.

absolutely perfect build! Are you riding fixed?

Thank you! Riding it single speed. Riding fixed cyclocross doesn't make any sense.

nah was just wondering cause I fassumed the pistards to be a FG/Track wheelset without machined sidewalls..

Posted almost 11 years ago

BklynLOW

BklynLOW says:

Oh okay. The wheels can be used as a single speed. The hub proudly accepts freewheels. The black iodizing just takes some time to come off.

i want to install canti brakes but i wish know if they works well and if they doesn't scratch the rims.. see you.
we got great bikes!!

They work well. If you're worried about the surface scratching then buy a different wheelset.

this thing is so good! how do you like the singlespeed for off road? i've been thinking of a nature boy for commuting and tooling around on the fire roads around here.

BklynLOW says:

I love it. Mainly because I haven't ridden any other bike off-road with gears. It is fun to be able to jump on paved road and unto a dirt road. I will say the tires help out a lot for that. The center thread, has just enough thread for the streets and the outter threads beg for the dirt.

Awesome rig. I get it is super fun to ride!
I little word of advice, you should have the yoke hanger ( I believe it's called) a bit higher above the tires. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of mud clearance for canti brakes! :)

I have my eye on a vig, your build made me actually want it more. Plus, I love how a vig rides. It'll be done as soon as I get the wheelset. Hopefully it'll be here by next week.

How tall are you? just curious because I am selling my concept to get this frameset as well. I just need to know if I should go with a 53cm or 51cm.

Posted about 11 years ago

BklynLOW

BklynLOW says:

The geo is some what similar to a Vig. So I would suggest getting a 53. Keep in mind the top tube on the 53 is 54cm and the 51 top tube is 52cm.

If you count the dead bodies, rats, worst streets in the US then yes there's enough CX terrain.
