My Kanasawa

The Kanasawa Bike Company? Who? That's what I thought when I first stumbled onto the Kanasawa Bike website. I was just looking for a good, single speed bike for commuting to work that wouldn't get stolen every time I left it outside. I hated carrying those heavy U-locks. I kind of liked that I never heard of Kanasawa, but I was surprised I hadn't, because it's a really nice bike. Those lime green grips and flat black paint job got my attention but it was the hand built 4130 chromoly main frame and aluminum alloy parts that did it for me. This company knows how to offer quality materials and parts at a great price. It shipped fast too. The wheels are 700c double-walled aluminum with aluminum hubs. They bolt on so you don't have to pull the wheel to lock it up. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't get the black rims that I wanted. The website has an area you can customize your bike, but they were out of them. I got lime green instead. They might have more by now. It's a pretty light bike - only 24 pounds. The welds are nicely finished. The angles are really relaxed. The ride is solid. I can stretch over the long top tube and there is plenty of room for my legs. I got the 58 cm. The bars are nice and wide. I like that I can ride freewheel or fixed just by turning the rear wheel around. I even flipped it on the street once. Just felt like going fixed. It's very simple. The nice thing about the paint job is that it doesn't have a company logo and it's real easy to put decals on. I got a bunch of cool stickers and put them all over the frame. Now I know my bike whenever I see it and I have to admit I did a pretty good job. The cranks have some crazy name on them I can't pronounce but they are super beefy and look awesome. They are aluminum too. I like the Kanasawa bike. I got a lot of bike for my money and since most thieves are too stupid to know what they're looking at, they leave my bike alone.
