Updated with 80mm stem. Need to get my chainring and rip it for a bit to test the cockpit. Once dialed I'll trim the steerer tube.

Things are changing. I'm going to have an even 50mm under the stem. Also going to a 80mm stem, too much reach to the brake levers now at 130. Lastly trim the steerer tube to match the new stack height. I'll post a pic after mods.

How tall are you? If you feel like you need your handlebars at that height the most common issue is your riding a bike too small.

This is a mock up build, hasn't been ridden yet. I have a bad back and thought I'd put them up high. I've learned this isnt a good idea and have lowered the bars considerably (60mm to stem). Im 5' 5-6" and the frame is 53cm. I'd guess about 3" between the jewels and top tube.

Thats good, you will receive alot of feedback on that first pic for sure. People on here try to lookout for people for the most part so dont take it as people attacking your style. In the future i would say get a bike with a more slack headtube and road geo if you have a bad back.

Thank you. Any and all suggestions are taken constructively. I'll put up a new pic ASAP with the adjusted h/bar. It definitely looks correct, if that's the right way to say it. Seat has been position per the .887 formula by the way.

Looks much better! I would suggest having the top steerer cut once you find out whats comfortable. If you need to reset the spacers to the original pic i would look into selling and getting something that fits you better. When it comes to having that much steerer tube i myself feel like it can be a hazard given you get into an accident. I like the build by the way! Looks like its ready to get some miles on it.

Spacers beyond 3 inches on a carbon steer tube are un safe.

did you have a back injury?

40degreerake says:

My back is not the best. Like I stated the steerer tube is aluminum and I would guess all or part of the fork crown. One more thing the spacers are Omni carbon fiber 40 and 60. Your thoughts?

zeegz says:

spacers are not an issue, I'm not sure about an aluminum steertube being an issue but if you think about there are a lot of forces coming down on your handlebars (flexing, etc. I would at least try to match your stem height with your saddle and/or get a shorter stem. (your stem look disproportionate to your seat height) assuming your seatpost height is correctly fitted. But thats just my opinion, you may have a very short inseam and a super tall torso. either way you may wanted to get fitted/at least roughly estimated at your LBS.

Thanks for your input. I'm going to take the 40mm spacer out of the stack. The stack will be 60mm and very even with the seat. It'll put me in a little more of a lean, which shouldn't be bothersome. I'll post a pic.
