1970 Montgomery Ward Open Road

This bike probably means the most to me because of its story. It was given to me because the original owner was hit by a car while riding it. After some much needed straitening i had turned it into a fixed gear and stripped it of all its accessories. I started riding it a lot and would go to rides in L.A. My friend underestimating the height of a metro station parking garage drove my bike straight into the ceiling. Naturally it fell off and was cracked. It wasnt major so i still went for the ride and the downtube gave way hours later leaving me to literally hold my down tube with one hand and ride 7 miles to the next metro station. I made it home and the next day i was told to throw the bike away. Instead...I welded it. Then maybe a year later it cracked again towards the bottom of the downtube. Once again i was told to get rid of it but i cut off the old downtube just grabbed a piece of straight gauge steel and welded a new tube on. I then stripped the frame of its ratty blue paint with rust and weld spatter and gave it a nice fire engine red color. I then got a disc for free and couldnt say no to representing my friends and our mtb team.I made my own seatpost as well cause the frame is too small. It may not look like it, but its fast.

That's pretty sick. I just got my hands on one of these. Did you go fixed because of wheel size and brake reach issues?.
