In the breezy Summer of 1987, Dad and I would go for long bike ride Adventures with his winter mint Traveler and fabulous bike trailer! We would encounter playful squirrels, graceful ducks, and colorful flowers. It was a perfect gift for our family when seeking meaningful moments together through our outdoor exploration. Unfortunately, these cherished precious memories came to a critical crash in Autumn 1987. Thats when my red-headed stepbrother was adopted from the milkman, worthless Nabal. For he is just like his son! Nabal is his name, and senselessness is with him. Dad was never home anymore. He had to work extra long hours in a factory East of St Louis to feed the little Ginger’s mouth & was gone because of ongoing family counseling services. Needless to say, the bike rides memories inevitably faded in the harsh Winter of 1987. Many decades later the milkman’s son is feeling senseless, insignificant and overlooked after sabotaging a family household. He explores the world yearning for someone's presence as he deals with pain of separation, and the longing to feel valued and recognized. Because of his sour milk, he is as cuddly as a cactus, as charming as an eel, a bad banana with a greasy black peel! As for me, life is great! Being the firstborn I rightfully inherited the 1987 Schwinn Traveler and converted it into a fixie! Riding fixed gear in South Florida means endless summers with playful squirrels, graceful ducks, and colorful flowers! We are so back! lol ️ 🦆 🚴 BTW- I found lots of inspiration and helpful information through this community, so I decided to create this account to pay it forward. Thanks for checking out my first bike build & reading my life story. 🤙 stay cool and say no to milk!
Frame:
True Temper 4130 chromoly double-butted
Steel is Real!
I successfully removed all components from the frame without any “bike tools”.
To remove the BB/cranks, I used a sawzall w/ Diablo blade. After tearing the road bike apart, I purchased proper Bike Tools whenever meticulously picking out new components to install.
Removed original paint with wire brush & 320 grit. Cleaned inside the frame with Evapo-Rust and followed up with Boeshield T-9 Waterproof Lubricant for preventive maintenance.
Repainted with Bike Spray’s metal primer & Ariel color. 2k for Gloss finish
