SCO Long John

These bikes were built in Denmark for 80 years, and were mainly used as workhorses in industrial and commercial settings. It's hard to get an idea of just how solid these bikes are without seeing one in person. The carrier baskets are rated to haul 100kg (220lbs) and the detachable rear racks are rated for 50kg (110lbs). The frame and carriers are heavy guage steel tubing. This one managed to make it's way across the ocean and end up in my neck of the woods. It was a rusty heap, and looked like it had lived a hard life. The kid I bought it from found it in Canada. The word "ZOO" stenciled on it gave us some clue about it's past. The kid took it apart, strapped it to the roof of his Honda Civic, and brought it down to the states. He used it in it's rusted, clapped out state for making deliveries for a courier company. When she wound up in my hands, I decided to give her some much needed love. Some original components were able to be reused, like the Sachs drum brake hub, stem and bars. Everything else was replaced with high quality modern equivalents. She cleaned up nicely with a gloss black powdercoat. I used bmx rims for the wheel builds, as they were the toughest available rims in 24" and 20". I think they look bitchin, too. The Shimano Nexus hub provides the perfect gear range, from slow crawling to cruising nicely. Don't let her good looks fool you, she's always DTH. http://www.longjohn.org/rahmen/rahmen_en.html

Never weighed it. I do know that the carrier basket alone weighs more than most complete bikes.
