I believe the 5500 is one of the last frames to offer such a thing. I am also under the impression that this year was the last one to have 1" threaded steer tube for a quill.

Yeah, what a weird time in cycling tech. Armstrong used one STI for the rear mech and a DT shifter for the FD. How does it ride?

Like a dream! it's so smooth.. and quiet. the only noise it makes is the freewheel when coasting, and the clicks from the indexed RD shifter. I feel like people can hear me shift from a block away haha. Definitely stiffer than the 531 Puch I was riding for the better part of the last year. my first carbon frame though so I have nothing to compare it to in that realm. I've pushed it pretty hard already and it's responded well. Hard to believe it's "vintage". I haven't gotten on any road bikes made in the past 5-10 years though so maybe I would feel it's dated if I had a frame of reference from the modern stuff.

I don't doubt it! Probably rides better than a lot of modern carbon bikes, good mix of stiffness and compliance. Agree that getting some nice drop bars are the next move!
