1957 Diamant Modell 177

The “Modell 177” was the first track bike of the Diamant bike factory which was produced after WW II. It was only made between 1954 and 1959 and is based on the legendary road bike “Diamant Modell 167”. The geometry was optimised to meet the requirements of track cycling like different dropouts, a head tube with a steeper angle and a higher positioned bottom bracket. Also the fork was less pre-bended in comparison to the road model and typically all bosses and holes (for front and rear brake) have been left out. The frame is made out of chrome molybdenum steel and in order to reduce the weight of the bike a lot of parts (for example the seat post, pedals and the handlebar) were made from aluminium. This results in a complete bike weight of approximately 9,3kg. This particular bike was produced in 1957 and shows the second version of the Modell 177 finishes, with the very sensitive red "varnish paint" and an aluminium head tube plate. In 1957 the price for one of these bikes was about 481,- gdr mark. For comparison the gross monthly income in 1960 was about 555,- gdr mark on average.
