Aerodynamic hoops

(closed)
So I'm looking at the possibility of lacing up a nice wheelset for my track bike, and I've come across the question of what hoop should I lace up? Looking for something aero and pretty light since my track riding will primarily be done at ADT (indoor track). Any chinese carbon hoops that you guys swear by, or maybe even some light deep dish alu rims? (like the sl42s)

A set of Mavic Open-Pro hoops would do nicely, you could go with Chinese carbon but if I were you I would get some quality carbon. I had also thought about building some Planet-X hoops up, they have a 101mm rim that you could build up for the back. You could also get an 82mm Planet-X (pre-built or not) for the front, I think it would complement the 101 in the back nicely. Keep in mind though, if you're going deeper than 60mm it would be in your best interest to ride indoors only as crosswinds will affect you heavily.

Yeah I'll use my ellipses on outdoor tracks, and I'd be using these wheels for indoor.

In terms of weight to aero advantages, the extra weight I'd be receiving from the planet x 82 mm rims wouldn't outweigh the aero advantage that I'd receive from them correct? Like they say, every extra pound in a wheelset is equivalent to about 2 pounds on the frameset.

Weight doesn't matter on the track.

Yeah.. I know... I was too lazy to edit/delete my comment. I just really like having really quick acceleration.

Oh, then you aren't going to want to get anything deeper than 60mm.

I probably will go with those planet x tubulars though! Thanks for the advice.

Yeah no worries, Planet-X quality is great, and the price is about the same as Chinese carbon.
