Basically, go to your local bike shop, try it on and if it fits and is comfortable, get it!

spec echelon is pretty much the nicest helmet in its price category

I haven't ridden it but as a cheap (!!) alternative to the Catlike Whisper there's the Catlike Tako. Personally I'm going to upgrade to the Lazer 02.

I ride with a Lazer Neon. It's not bad at all. It also has this neat little rear light on the top of the helmet.
