Spoke Selection

(closed)
I'm looking at having a new wheelset built up in the near future. I was looking for 32H Silver TB14s laced to Low Flange Phils.

My question with spokes is which ones do I go for? Straight or butted spokes, and which brand (Phil, DT, Sapim)? I plan on possibly ordering from Retrogression. I want it to be durable and was also curious about lacing. Is 3X cross the toughest?

Thank you!

anyway, the reason you don't see is on the grounds [url=https://www.essaytigers.co.uk/write-my-... My Essay For Me[/url] that you scarcely meet the 15% of Singaporeans (like me) whose fabulous guardians, guardians and relatives all communicate in English at home, as a first dialect, solely. We exist.

I'd highly recommend Sapim Lasers or Phil Wood butted spokes. 32h 3x is super standard and very very strong, probably to the point of being overkill for the vast majority of people. If I could do it over again, I'd probably go for 28h 2x

Just checked with my LBS and they have DT double butted spokes. Would these do the job or should I really go Sapim or Phil?

All the wheels I've built have been with DT double butted Revolution spokes and I've never had any issues. Their nipples aren't great though in my opinion.

I use DT Competition double butted for just about every wheel build that I do. Great price and quality. i would also go with DT Pro Lock brass nipples.

2x lacing is supposed to be the strongest from what i have been told. it has something to do with the angle that the spokes cross each other.

Try Sapim Lasers or Phil Wood butted spoke.

Sapim Lasers are very thin (1.5mm) and as a professional wheelbuilder, would not be my first choice for box section rims laced to low flange hubs. The result will be a very springy wheel and if higher tension is used to overcome that, you'll spend more time truing those wheels than riding on them.

I'm going to recommend using a double butted spoke with a thicker center, like Sapim Race or Phil Wood (both of which are 1.8mm).

Regarding the lacing, there's really no good reason to lace a 32h wheel 2X.

2X lacing only provides better bracing angles and more strength on lower spoke count wheels and the weight savings by using slightly shorter spokes on 32h TB14s laced to Phil hubs isn't enough to matter here on planet Earth.

Thanks for the replies! Ordered LF Phils from Retrogression and LBS ordered my TB14s and DT Double Butted spokes and brass nipples. I'll opt for 3x cross.

Divide the number of spokes by 9, it'll give you something with a decimal but the whole number without rounding up or down is how many times the spokes should cross. I have no idea why this works but it does.

I hope I can get my hubs, they seem to be stuck in customs ATM... Need to have the wheels built up for a race on the 27th...
