Hows running a 54/16 feel?

Posted over 10 years ago

jdawg4334

jdawg4334 says:

It felt good when I did it because I was still faster than all of my buddies hills or flats. I met some people that truly are fast and this ratio couldn't hold it's ground.

I prefer in the 51:17 realm.

Why would you want this? It has been appraised at worthless / unsalvageable short of taking it to a custom frame builder and having him basically dissemble the whole frame and re brake the whole thing for a couple thousand bucks. Now that I think about it, I don't think that I'd ever do that for a frame that way too small for me.

Damn man, that really sucks. Glad your ok though dude and to hear from you. I almost came close riding home tonight during my cool down. Damn BMW barley stopped at the light and was about 3 inches form hitting me. Dude had to skid stop and I hauled ass to get out of the way the split second. What frame you plan on riding? Are you back to your old one or something new?

jdawg4334 says:

damn dude, some drivers dude, simply pathetic. glad that you werent hit though.

and im still a little banged up so im not really worrying about my bike yet and hopefully, well get the money from the gal that hit me before in done healing.

and nah, like i said, im still hurt, so im not using my old bike, my friend currently has it actually.

and im really looking into a planet x track frame, a low pursuit frame, or an njs frame, probably samson or kalavinka, but idk yet, its just annoying because i had to spend all of my time getting all the different parts for this bike, hahaha, and i dont really wanna get a frame that would make me have to get all new parts again. hahaa. but idk.

got any suggestions man, i really honestly dont know what i want.

cannondale track, definitely, over everything else, but those are so rare, you know?

idk dude, im gonna be honest, the bike was a little to small, hard to skid on, and gave me lower back problems, hahaha, im looking into just a new frame thatll fit nicely, maybe a low pursuit.

Posted over 12 years ago

SillyGooseCookie

SillyGooseCookie says:

If you could get a Low, then that'd be awesome. I'm guessing the waiting period would be pretty long since they're custom made. Also, do you still have the IRO to ride? If not, that must really suck.

yep, the hed 3 was untrued and the tubular gluing surface was fucked up a bit in various places.

i had a fun week with that wheel. hahahahaha

SillyGooseCookie says:

The HED. 3 looks awesome, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? Also, instead of a Zipp 900 disc, you could look at some of the older HED. discs, I just picked up an old clincher 7-speed (soon to be 8) HED. disc for 60 bucks. And it is possible to convert them to track discs.

Posted over 12 years ago

jdawg4334

jdawg4334 says:

so it IS possible to convert those things? yea dude, id rather have one of the older hed discs cause then id matching wheels. :] all i wanted to know is if i could convert them, do you know how they would do that by any chance?

and yea dude, the 650c version is less in demand so i got for real cheap, 305 with 30 dollar shipping.

http://bikepennst8.blogspot.com/2008/05... there's a quick tutorial on how to do it. The kit this guy is using is designed for track use only, so there's no room for a lockring. I've heard that the Surly Fixxer also works on the disc.

Wow, great build, that gear ratio is awesome. If you don't mind me asking, what's the story behind the frame? I've never of J. Harris. Also, IMO, some Cinelli LA84s would look great on it.

Posted over 12 years ago

jdawg4334

jdawg4334 says:

DUDE! thats so funny, ive always loved the LA84s and have wanted them forever, but theyre so rare.

but yea, im not sure if this is true, but i know that R. J. Harris was a professional australian track racer and i think that two things happened: he either knew how to make frames himself and made this one himself, or he had a very serious frame builder make a custom frame for him, cause the geometry on this frame dude, i mean, its tighter than njs frames, so its gotta be custom.
