What do you think is the largest size tire you can fit in those Paul brakes? I currently have a tire that measures 45mm with Tektro mini-vs on my Cross Check. Looking at the Paul brakes and TRP for an upgradae.

Honestly haven't tried anything huge. I would guess 42 is about the most. http://nomusic.net/introducing-der-panzer/ Here's an article with a build using 43's. Hope it helps. They are great brakes, wouldn't but anything else personally.

I love it. I'm in the market for my first touring bike. Can't seem to fall for one though.

If touring isn't the PRIMARY use of the bike there isn't really a need to go for a fully specific touring bike. Utility orientated cross bikes fit the bill totally well. Bikes like the Cross Check, Space Horse and Double Cross are popular examples but it is a fairly broad category. Personally I find that the cross check is one of the most versatile platforms one can find within that category. Be it accessory compatibility, tire size, gear compatibility or what ever. I also appreciate that fact that the 99% of my life I am not touring I have a very functional cross bike or steel cruiser. I recently added an ec90x fork to it and now it's even more race worthy.
