He requested a refund claiming they “were not as described”
PayPal went towards his favor and he shipped back a metal bar (PICS)

When PayPal puts your money on hold due to buyer opening a case - fill up your negative balance with a credit card. Ideally Amex or other premium card.
If situation is such that buyer scams you and PayPal sides with them, you have some good chance that Amex will cover your loss i.e. refund charge from card, once you dispute transaction and provide some good support.
