1983 Raleigh Gran Sport 12 - 62cm

This bike is mostly original. I upgraded to a honey Brooks Swift Ti saddle which cost more than what I paid for the bike on Ebay! The original Weinmann concave rims needed to be replaced. The rear one had a flat spot that could not be removed. Had Mike the owner of my LBS (Tony's Bikes & Sports ) re-lace the wheels with SUN CR18 rims (from Harris Bike Shop per a suggestion by Sheldon Brown) and then mounted the wheels with Continental Gaterbacks. It made a huge improvement in the ride. Swapped to a longer Cinelli 1A stem - the original one was too short. Changed to a Shimano hyperglide freewheel to get a wider ratio for the hills. The modern ramped design made the shifting response much quicker and almost noiseless.

It handles the 28th tooth sprocket just fine. Unfortunately this large frame being built with Reynolds 531c makes it very flexible. If I try to stand up to climb a hill the bottom bracket flexes so much side to side and it won't stay in the 28 tooth Cog and auto shifts down :-( For this bike I just have to stay seated and spin or grind my way up the hill.

sibkis,

How does that Gran Sport derailleur handle the 28 tooth cog? No upper pulley interference? Beautiful machine.
