It works fine. Front derailleurs don't matter as much as long as you have the limits set right i think.

According to Shimano tech docs FD 7900 for example is supposed to have different pull ratio than the FD 5700. I've never used that combination or mixing sram/shimano and I'm just curious about it.

I like the ergonomics of Sram shifters a lot more, so that was the biggest factor. The double tap is neat too.
