[SOLD] My 94' Merckx MX-Leader

1994 Eddy Merckx MX-Leader with custom paintjob. I found the frame, size 54, NOS, and I built it with a mix of vintage and new periphericals, in order to respect as much as possible the stiffness of this frame : Shamal, Ultra torque, Cinelli Grammo Titanium... The bike wheighs an exact 9 kilos thanks to some lightweight components (1990 Flite Titanium, Skeleton brakes, Campagnolo Record carbon seatpost,...) even though I really didn't try to look for the lightest build possible.

Frame:
Merckx MX-Leader in Columbus MXL tubing

Crankset/Bottom Bracket:
Campagnolo Chorus Carbon

Drivetrain/Cog/Chainring/Chain:
Campagnolo 10sp gruppo

Derailleurs/Shifters:
Campagnolo Centaur Carbon... Broken

Handlebars/Stem:
Cinelli Grammo Titanium + 3TTT superleggero ergo

Saddle/Seatpost:
Campagnolo Record Carbon (broken) + Italia Flite 90' Titanium

Brakes:
Campagnolo Centaur Skeleton

Front Wheel/Hub/Tire:
Campagnolo Shamal on Campagnolo Record hub

Rear Wheel/Hub/Tire:
Campagnolo Shamal on Campagnolo Record hub

Accessories:
Deda gel cork

How did you convert your rear shamal to 10 speed?

Once you find the compatible free wheel body and the compatible cones, it is not very complicated. Luckily, I found these spare parts quite easily on a dead Zonda wheel. But if you gotta buy them new, you'll have to cash around 200USD...

I've been reading about using an 90's athena freehub body on the record hub. Apparently, they produced these for some years without the larger axel. You're right, I would rather know something will convert over spending 200. Wouldn't mind getting more life out of my shamal once I ditch 8 speed.

i would sell my right ball for that. although i have the same paintjob on my merckx, i like it way more on a steel frame

The same ? Exactly the same one ? Red, dark blue, pearl white and a touch of gold ? I never saw any other merckx with such a paintjob, that's why I assumed it was a particular request from the first owner. But if you confirm it's the exact same, than we have a new hint in this story. :p

(Keep your balls, it's not for sale. At least, not for the moment. :D )

This is interesting, as there is a 14 year difference between Blokk's pista and this bike here. Having the same paintjob, especially one as unique as this, would seem unlikely. And yet...?

I'll be climbing the Stelvio in one month. I'll replace them by Campagnolo Neutron Ultra for this purpose. But I love the look the shamal give to the bike !
