In October 2014, I went to visit a friend in Estonia. While I was in Tallinn, I met some fixed gear riders. One of them was selling that ХВЗ рекорд frame and parts. I had been in love with these rad bikes from ex-ussr for years so I acquired it without hesitation, in plan of building a track tank that could face mud, dead leaves and snow. Unfortunately, a few days later, I broke my hand and I've been off the bike for the whole winter without having the chance to give it a build. This year, I didn't lose the occasion and built it. Good thing I had bought all the original parts together with the frame: nothing fits our modern/international standards. I just managed to squeeze a new pair of Miche Pista wheels by passing the dropouts spacing from 105mm to 120mm, and replaced the original cottered BB spindle with a square tapered one so I could mount another crankset. I opted for that Campagnolo Centaur 1990's crank to give that monster a yet weirder look. I also chose to keep both chainrings in order to easily change ratio according to what I want to do (cx for fun or grasstrack for speed?). Except that, everything is 100% fully original, up to the bar tape and shattered plastic saddle!

Hy! Greetings from Estonia!

Hey Frank!
I'm sad you bought it : I originally wanted to buy both. haha
Anyway, I indeed simply changed the axle and kept the original bearings. Not the most orthodox manipulation but if it works, it ain't stupid. ;)

Cool look. :)
So what's the gear ratio now?

42-19 (2.21)
I'd love to go a tiny bit lower, with a 39t crown, for instance...
