Could not resist this beautifully restored 1932 F. H. Grubb tandem. Everything about her is "the best".
Frame:
Not sure of the tube set used here but it was built prior to the invention of 531 in 1935! Very light frame from one of the best tandem builders pre-war (Freddie Grubb, Claud Butler & Selbach). It's been hand refinished with 10+ coats of coach enamel with box lining. Just beautiful...
Fork/Headset:
Chater Lea headset with a Grubb fork. She has a long fork trail, making for a "determined" adherence to "straight ahead"!
Crankset/Bottom Bracket:
All matching Chater Lea BBs, cranks and chain wheels. These were apparently pretty rusty before polishing and re-chroming.
Pedals:
Chater Lea "Tommy bar" pedals
Drivetrain/Cog/Chainring/Chain:
All matching Chater Lea
Derailleurs/Shifters:
Cyclo 3 x speed rear deralieurre which is a delight to use, so light!
Saddle/Seatpost:
Matching Brooks B17 oval stamp brown saddles
Brakes:
Resillion levers and calipers... delicious and effective!
Front Wheel/Hub/Tire:
Dunlop rim, 40 x spokes with Chater Lea hub. Has Freddie Grubb wing nuts...
Rear Wheel/Hub/Tire:
Cyclo 3 x speed derailleur with a 40 x hole Dunlop rim on a Chater Lea hub.
Accessories:
Joseph Lucas mileometer and Britanialloy pump. Looking for a period lighting set up if you know of one...
More Info:
I love this tandem as for me it represents the great years of British design and innovation. Pretty too!
