Textima 24"/24" Prototype

This team pursuit track frame was made by Christian Pyttel and Frank Böhme in the Textima research and development centre in Karl-Marx-Stadt in former GDR in 1982. In that time, the technicians didn`t have the possibilities to test new frame geometries via CFD-simulation. That means, that they have to build prototypes to investigate new aerodynamic modifications. One of the numerous ideas they had was to use a 24” front and back wheel for narrow spacing between the team pursuit drivers to take more advantage of the slipstream. For testing, probably just a handful of these frames were made. Wind channel experiments show that the effort for the last of the four team riders could be reduced significantly, but vice versa the effort for the first team rider became too challenging. That`s why this construction never made the final leap to series production and competitions.

This turned out beautifully!! Did you fabricate the handlebars yourself, or modify an existing handlebar?

steelbuddie says:

For the moment I just modified an existing handlebar. But I started some bending experiments so maybe my own fabrication will follow ;-)

Beautiful welds, braze?

Posted over 7 years ago

steelbuddie

steelbuddie says:

Yes, they are brazed without lugs to reduce air turbulences and the weigth of the frame ;-)

Posted almost 8 years ago

evisu

evisu says:

Jungs... Das is mir schon klar.

Posted almost 8 years ago

steelbuddie

steelbuddie says:
